Now is the time that you have to put seeds in the ground to get the crops in time. If you do it for the first time or stop it for many years, then you should follow these tips. It will help you to get what you want. As a farmer, you should know about a few terms such as disc openers, meters seed tubes and many more which are related to the no-till planter.

  • Meters

Before planting, make sure to test the meters as well. The meters should be checked every 300 to 400 acres or every one year. You can change brushes and belts every three to four years.

  • Depth of Colters

Keep in mind that the colters are shallower 1/4 inch than the disc opening. Generally, no-till planter sets the planter disc openers on the board. After that, you should spin and set the planter disc openers on a board freely.

  • Planter Hitch Position

The hitch should not be excessively low and tipping unevenly front to back. Otherwise, the seed tube points get forward and could bring about seed flying out the seed tube rather than delicately dropping into the furrow. You have to set the hitch in a proper way. Only then the toolbar of the planter is set higher front to back. In this way, no till planter drops and places the seed into the furrow accurately.

  • Disc Openers

Do not forget to measure the disc openers at any cost. If you notice that the opening is 1/2 inch or smaller, then you have to replace it. Remember that normally the spaces between the blades are 2 1/2 to 3 inches for 3.0 mm blades and 1 3/4 inches for 3.5 mm blades. If you do not set it properly then in that case, it can cause seed depth.

  • Chains

Do not forget to check the spring tension. When the planter is raised properly, the chain must be short and snug. You must check the bushings and chain idlers. If the chains are worn, replace them and wipe oil on grease zerks and all chains.

  • Seed Tubes

You have to replace seed tubes every year and check new seed tubes. The bottom of the seed should not be broken or frazzled.
