Some Effective Ways to Enhance Your No Till Planter

Changing from tilling to no till planting can be a massive choice for most farmers. Farmers have been plowing their fields for a long time, but it sometimes can be harmful to the soil. However, not all of them know that it is the most effective conservation practice that they can do. The use of a no till planter has undergone changes over the years. In the earlier days, farmers relied on primitive cultivation tools. Nowadays, the methods have improved and the approach is more environmentally friendly. You must ensure certain things about putting up your zero till planter before you can utilize it.

Start with Leveling

What do you think is the best way to ensure no miscues with your no till planter? Take it for a spin before planting to see if it can work properly. This step ensures that you will be able to level it quickly. Take as much time as you need to make all the leveling, from front to back, side to side. It will also ensure that all the other parts perform efficiently.

Tip- If the front unit gets packed with seeds, you might need to adjust the twin line and split row planter frames.

Consider the Position of the No Till Planter

Now that you leveled it, you must be extra careful about positioning your planter. If it's too low, it will let the seed fly out of the tube. This position will keep those seeds from going into the furrow where they’re supposed to go. You must settle it slightly higher back and front so these seeds can drop.

Do Not Keep the Coulter

Many farmers have chosen to use the no till colter as it provides a better result. The best thing to do is remove these coulters to avoid complications.

Tip- You can put the planter disc opener on a board to see if your colter spins freely.

Issue- A common issue you might face is problems with throwing the soil off the seed zone. It also can produce a false bottom of the seed slot that can make the seed-to-soil contact improper.

Placing Seed Tubes

When it comes to the zero till planter, you must replace the tube annually. You must ensure that there isn’t any irregularity from the molded plastic, or else you must file down. Also, check for a crack at the bottom or halfway up the tube.

Check the Floating Row Cleaners

Most no till planters come with floating row cleaners that have depth bands. It can give many advantages to farmers, like 10-13 bushels per acre yield.

Seal the Seed Slot Properly

It is essential to close the seed slot properly so that no insect or bird can harm your seed. If you have a moisture environment, use a pair of 13-inch spiked closing wheel and gauge wheel tires. This step helps to push the soil and close the seed slot from both sides.

Use Nutrients

When using a no till planter, you must use suitable fertilizers, as the soil temperature is cool. The corn plants can grow from many angles, like sideways and down at 30 degrees, so you have to place all the fertilizers correctly.
