Our Gauge Wheels
The Original 4Ag Product
Our planter gauge wheels are the product that started this whole business!
In 2011, we were finally fed up with having to change our planter gauge wheels every year or so, even after buying the “higher quality” products.
We took matters into our own hands and designed a tire that’s meant to get the job done year after year after YEAR.
Our gauge tires withstand long term use and residue while maintaining accurate seed depth.
So Durable, You’ll Replace the Vehicle Before the Wheels
4Ag gauge wheels are made to last. We use these tires, and they’ve lasted us more than a decade. We are helping you find a long term solution, not another expense.

Wheels in Action
Us vs. The Other Guys
We’ve been farming no-till cotton in western Oklahoma for years. Unfortunately, the other guys’ products just weren’t cutting it. We were replacing wheels annually, and our equipment was damaging our crops.
We took matters into our own hands and built products that are meant to last.
We’ve been using our own gauge wheel tires since 2012 (before we ever made them commercially available) and have not replaced them since. We’ve had no issues!
Now, it’s up to you to decide whether the investment is worth it, but we think the results speak for themselves.
Bring simplicity and focus back into no-till farming by investing in durable products made in the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a planter gauge wheel, and what does it do?
A planter gauge wheel is a wheel attached to a planter that controls the depth at which seeds are planted in the soil. By regulating the planting depth, gauge wheels help ensure consistent seed placement, which is crucial for optimal germination and crop uniformity.
Why is consistent seed depth important?
Consistent seed depth helps ensure even germination and crop emergence. Properly set gauge wheels allow seeds to be planted at the optimal depth for moisture access and root development, resulting in healthier plants and better yields.
How do I choose the right gauge wheels for my planter?
Selecting the right gauge wheels depends on your planter model, soil type, and planting conditions. Check the manufacturer’s guidelines or consult a dealer to determine the best size and material for your planter and conditions. Our wheels fit most planters!
How do I adjust gauge wheels on my planter?
Adjusting gauge wheels involves setting them to the desired seed depth based on soil conditions and crop requirements. Typically, you’ll adjust the gauge wheel arm so it fits snugly against the opener to maintain consistent depth control.
How do I know when to replace my gauge wheels?
Gauge wheels should be replaced if they show signs of significant wear, such as cracks, broken spokes, or a loose fit that no longer holds the desired depth. Regularly inspecting them each planting season can prevent issues in the field.
How do I maintain and clean my gauge wheels?
Cleaning gauge wheels after each use helps extend their life and prevent soil and debris buildup. Inspect for wear, lubricate moving parts, and store them in a dry place when not in use.
What is the difference between a gauge wheel and a closing wheel?
A gauge wheel sets and maintains the seed planting depth, while a closing wheel presses the soil back over the seed after it’s placed. Both wheels are essential for effective planting but serve different functions.
Can I use gauge wheels with a no-till planter?
Yes, gauge wheels are essential in no-till planting to control depth accurately despite surface residue. In no-till systems, gauge wheels can help manage residue and prevent soil buildup.
Are there any signs that indicate gauge wheels are improperly adjusted?
Uneven crop emergence, inconsistent seed depth, or soil buildup around the wheel can indicate improper adjustment. Properly aligned gauge wheels should maintain uniform seed placement across rows.
How long do gauge wheels usually last?
The lifespan of gauge wheels depends on usage, soil conditions, and maintenance. With proper care, gauge wheels can last several planting seasons, but they should be checked annually for wear and replaced if necessary.
